Workshop in Aqaba "Free Thoughts about the Future of Jordan"

The Friedich Naumann Foundation, in Partnership with the Free Thought Forum, organized a workshop on Saturday, 2nd of May 2015, defining Liberal Solutions for the Challenges of Jordan. The event took place in the Double Tree Hotel, Aqaba, with around 27 participants of universities and civil society.

In the first session of the workshop, Mr. Saed Karaja from the Free Thought forum discussed with the participants how to be successful in political debates, think critically and avoid errors of reasoning. The participants, in this session, learnt about the critical thinking skills and how to differentiate between a fact and an opinion. The session was followed by an exercise on the skills of reasoning and debating.

The Second Session presented an Introduction on Liberal Thought; it is concepts and the identification of the personal freedom and responsibility, individualism, tolerance and pluralism. The moderator, Yara Fawaz, was very successful in stimulating the participants to define the concepts and terminologies of liberalism.

The Third Session, which was moderated by Mr. Mohammed Masa’adeh from the Free Thought Forum, Introduced the concepts of Entrepreneurship, Property Rights, Competition, and Market Forces to the participants. Mr. Masa’adeh wrapped it up answering the question of; “Why Market Economy is good for Jordan?”

The Final Session in the workshop was moderated by Mr. Karaja, in which he presented the Social Concepts of Liberalism. In this final session the participants learnt about the social aspects of liberalism and how it aims to protect the society through protecting the freedoms of the individual.
